This Site Is Up For Sale...
We believe this site is a great idea, but, unfortunately, due to other commitments,
we don't have the time to develop it. However, we'd love to see someone else run
with it.
Technically, the site's complete (see below); it's just the marketing and management
effort we're a bit light on. The site's at a stage where it needs some serious on-line (SEO)
and off-line marketing to make it work.
So what are the revenue streams?
Apart from the obvious banner ad reveneues from a high traffic site, the site has the
functionality to place very targetted local ads for local businesses. At the moment, these
are in the top right hand corner, but could be placed elsewhere. Should someone
search for a florist near a given postcode, the system will find any florist
ads in that area. If it can't find a florist, it'll look for related businesses in the area,
then any florist, then any business in the area, and so on. The end result for advertisers
is the knowledge that their ad will be targetted at the people looking for their services.
For the new web owner they can sell ads cheaply, but there are many, many categories,
and many, many postcodes to provide a potentially large revenue stream.
Once the site has high enough traffic, 'premium listing's could provide further revenue,
along with sponsored links, banner ads, etc. etc. Currently, the 'FEATURED OFFER' is
randomly served, but the system has the functionality to serve only those ads that
have paid to be featured (the feature is just disabled for the moment).
So what would I be buying?
This is a fully featured site, built by Surrey's leading web development
company Hogsmill. Other websites that
Hogsmill employees have worked on include BBC, Vauxhall, Ladbrokes
and Laura Ashley (see this page for a full(-ish) list)
The site has a raft of features including:
- Full postcode integration for accurate searching when searching or serving ads, and distance reporting on results.
- Full, automated registration, complete with anti-SPAM technology and full input validation.
- Full email integration, e.g. automatically email listing owner when someone has looked at their ad.
- Fully automated, comprehensive daily reporting, e.g.:
- Number of new registrations
- Number of listings
- Any categories that have no listing
- Most/least popular categories
- etc.
- User forums to help generate a 'sense of community'
- 'My' sections to allows users to manage and personalise their own interaction with the system (e.g. My Profile, My Listings, etc.)
- The abililty to allow users to show or hide as much of their personal details as they wish; the system do everything in the background if required
- Fully featured management console for administrators to manage users, categories, listings, reporting, etc.
..and much more.
All of this is written in PHP - there are no further licences to purchase, and it will run on a standard PHP/MySQL build. It's
build using best practice engineering techniques such as unobtrusive CSS/JavaScript (all external), and MVC seperation, and
is optimised using Yahoo!'s rules for fast web sites, e.g. fully minified Javascript.
