Because ours is a local web site, and most people will be operating
from their own Email address, it will be a far safer way of making
contact than answering a small ad in the paper or local newsagents
window. However, it is still wise to exercise care and we offer the
following as a guide:
IF YOU'RE USING A SERVICE
- Where appropriate, ask for references and follow them up.
- Never leave a child or other vulnerable person in any one's care
without thoroughly checking references.
- Gas and electrical work must be carried out by a qualified and
registered person. Ask to see their registration certificate.
Google 'Corgi' and 'NICEIC' for details.
- Make sure your home insurance covers you for public liability
and accidents to people working in your home.
- Agree a price or the basis of pricing before work starts.
- People offering a service on our site may not be able to accept credit
cards. Be prepared to pay by cheque or cash as required, or to use
PayPal
IF YOU'RE PROVIDING A SERVICE
- If you will be going into a stranger's home always tell a responsible
person where you are going, what time to expect you back and what to
do if you do not check in as planned.
- Agree a price or the basis of pricing before you start and; how and
when you would like to be paid.
- Your customers will quite naturally want to know about your background,
so don't be offended if they ask for references or if there is
someone in the local community who knows of you both.
- Ask for - and keep - references for the work you do. This will help
you get further work. We can keep these on the site for you if
required.
